Dr. Anil Kumar worked as the Professor and Head of the School of Biotechnology at the Devi Ahilya University from 1991 to December 31, 2018 (up to the last day of his retirement). University re-hired him after his superannuation on a contract basis. His areas of expertise are enzyme technology, molecular biology, and genetic engineering. He is an eminent scientist who has more than 150 full-length research papers, 13 books, and 29 chapters in various edited books to his credit. He was the first to deduce the amino acid sequence of glycogen synthase, a study published in J. Biol. Chem. in 1986, during his postdoctoral work at Prof. Jack Preiss’ lab. This work was also humbly dedicated to Dr. Luis F. Leloir on the occasion of his 80th birthday on September 06, 1986. He has also contributed chapters in the books, published by Wiley group, viz. Encyclopedia of Molecular Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine, Epigenetic Regulation and Epigenomics, RNA Regulation; and Synthetic Biology- Advances in Molecular Biology and Medicine. He is a fellow of many societies including the World Society of Cellular & Molecular Biology, France.
Anil Kumar started his splendid journey from the Lucknow University, India where he procured his doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in biochemistry in 1983. Thereafter, in 1985 he joined Prof. Jack Preiss lab at the Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA. There, he worked on DNA sequencing and site-directed mutagenesis. After three years of hard work, he returned to India and with his continuous dedication and honesty soon became a role model for many young researchers. He has successfully guided nearly 30 Ph.D. students. At present, his main duties include helping University Administration and giving consultancy to the University on different academic matters. He is still guiding many Ph.D. and postdoctoral candidates.
